Assalamualaikum guys. Today I want to share my group's model on network in a city. Take a look =)
According to our model which represent the network over a city, me and my group members choose Wide Area Network (WAN) since it is network that covers a wide geographical area. Our model uses multiple types of wired and wireless transmission media such as:
-Communications satellite
-Microwaves
-Cellular radio
-Broadcast radio
-Fiber optic cable
So, this is how our model's represent the network;
The communications satellite will broadcasts the signal to any number of earth-based stations. The earth-based station which uses microwave as transmission media will send signal in the form of radio waves. Cellular radio such as 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G also send signals in the form of broadcast radio that is used widely for mobile communications specifically wireless modem and mobile phones. It is within longer range (WiMAX) or medium range (Wi-Fi). On the other hand, fiber optic cable is used to connects network within a building.
We choose both peer to peer network and client server network as our network architecture.
1.Peer To Peer Network
This network is used in the house. It is a simple, inexpensive network that can connects less that 10 computers or devices where each of them have equal capability of sharing resources. This network are ideal for home users. Plus, it is easy to set up since it only requiring a hub or a switch to connect all computers together. If one computer fails, it does not affect the others.
2.Client Server Network
Client server network is applicable within the building. One or more computers act as a server which provide services to the client which request services from the server. It works at any size of networks and does not tend to slow down with heavy use. The security of this network also more advanced since we can have passwords to own individual profiles. So, nobody can access anything that they want without our knowledge.
For our model, we uses the star topology and bus topology.
1.Star Topology
We applied this topology for the network in the building. It is consists of a central device such as switch where all the nodes are connected to it using cables. Data travel straight to the recipient. The advantages of this topology is;
i) If one node fails, it does not affect the rest of the star topology.
ii) Adding or removing nodes will makes little or no disturbance to the rest of the network.
2.Bus Topology
This topology is applied in the house. It consists of single cable (backbone/trunk) which connects all the nodes in the network using T-connector and has a terminator on both sides of the backbone. Signals are sent as electrical pulses that travel along the length of the cable in both directions to all the nodes. Only the recipient node will accepts the data. The advantages of this topology is;
i) Inexpensive and easy to set up.
ii) If one node fails, it does not affect the others.
iii) Adding or removing nodes will makes little or no disturbance to the rest of the network.
